Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

Threats by Parole Agent

I've recently agreed to a situation where my mother in-law who was recently paroled will be temporarily living with us and understand that certain rights have been waived in doing this.

Unfotunately she and my wife argue on occasion and she has moved out twice now causing some anxiety on behalf of her Parole Agent. She is now back in the house, and in a recent conversation with her Parole Agent he threatened my wife with an unannounced search of our property ''any time, be it early in the morning or late at night. And if he finds 'anything' that every member of the household will go to jail.''

He is angry that she keeps moving (twice now) to a temporary location and it is trouble keeping track of her (she has to register her address as part of her parole). Unfortunately I can't stop her from leaving or calling him to take her out of the home, but I don't feel that I should be threatened by him either because he has someone on his case list that is ''cantankerous'' to say the least.

We have tried to comply with the law as much as possible, but is there any way I can stop these sort of angry threats other than moving her out permanently (she is terminally ill and needs help until we can find her assisted living).

Re: Threats by Parole Agent

You may not be able to stop her from leaving but you can stop her from returning. You should not put your entire family at risk, even if it nothing more than harrassment from the parole officer. Just lay it out for both the mother inlaw and the parole agent. That if she leaves again it is the last time she will not be returning.
