Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
Today at the beach I got a ticket for having open alcohol. It was issued by a State Park Beach Peace Officer in California. He checked off the box "Misdemeanor" at the top and circled Misdemeanor (instead of infraction) below. If I pay the fine when it is mailed to me, will this go away? Or will I have a criminal record now because of the "misdemeanor"? I'm worried about future employment prospects if this is the case.

You will absolutely have a criminal record that will hurt your career if you just plead to this. Go to court and talk to the DA and/or judge and go for an infraction, or even better, fight the case and see if the cop shows up. If he doesn't they will likely dismiss. You should talk to a lawyer to avoid future problems.
