What is the length of time law officials can keep a vehicle as evidence? Are there procedures that can have impound and storage fees waived?

Re: Vehicle Impoundment for Evidence
If the vehicle is evidence, it will be kept for the duration of the case and possibly appeal. However, after acquittal, if the vehicle is not contraband (i.e. it wasn't stolen, used in or proceeds from drug trafficking), it can be returned.
