Re: Video Court

If you don't mind that your son does jail time then the answer is yes. It is a no brainer. Your son should either seek a public defender or a private defense counsel.

Re: Video Court

Your son has the right to an attorney. He can and must insist on it strongly. If he cannot get a private attorney, the court has the duty to appoint one for him.

Pleading either way (with or without attorney) does not mean your son has to plead guilty but plead either guilty or not guilty at a hearing called arraignment. Your son should insist on having an attorney at the time of his plea at arraignment. If for some reason the court insists he pleads, the plea should be not guilty of course until and unless your son has had the opportunity to review and consult on his case with an attorney.

Under no circumstances your son should accept any deals before talking to a defense attorney.
