i am being charged and i have not been around this person all i received was a letter to report to court and then the da gave me a paper showing what i was charged for. dont the police need to come talk to me if i did something to someone and would there be a report on file

In situations involving allegations of violations of a court order, it does often happen that the police are not involved and charges are filed based on statements of the victim alone.

If the police have not talked to you then, in a way, you are fortunate because you should not be talking to them. Get a lawyer. Do not talk to anyone without one.
