Legal Question in Criminal Law in California
I think I have a warrant for my arrest
I was arrested for possesion of a controlled substance which the passenger of the car placed in a can and would not admit to. I went to court and was told by the courts attorney to plead guilty. I did and started the drug diversion classes. Hafe way through I missed my mid-term meeting and was kicked out of the classes. I got reinstated but I could not pay all the fines. Is there anyway I can go and talk to the judge and explain what all has happened with out the fear of being put back in jail? I am taking car of a little boy (8) who's mother died in December and have had to put my own Mother in assisited living and it would devastate them if I went to jail. Thank you for your time and help.

Re: I think I have a warrant for my arrest
The attorney that was assisting you was your attorney appointed by the court. Go in and have your file take to the judge. The court will assign you an attorney to assist you. Then tell the judge about all the personal problems you've had taking care of the 8 year old and your mother. The judge will then re-assign you to the drug abuse program, and give you more time to pay the fines. You might want to ask for some sort of community service to work off the fines. You might take with you some proof of taking care of the 8 year old, and your mother's situation. Go in to the court sooner rather than later. Don't put it off. And go in during the morning. Try to get there at 8:00 a.m. So that the court has plenty of time to handle your case. This is my professional opinion based upon what you've told me.
