Legal Question in Criminal Law in California

warrants

I just got pulled over, got a ticket for suspended DL.

I have a couple warrants in a neighboring county, when I go to court in the county where I got the ticket.will they have my past warrant info there.I have no warrants issued in the county where I got the ticket are counties linked when you go to court,on unrelated issues.Do I wait to see and get arrested? Do I turn myself in to the other county before I go to this court.I'm hoping I can take care of this new ticket, without old warrants comming up and me going to jail! Then I can take care of the old warrants! money is few and far between, jail right now is not a option. please help!!!!!

Re: warrants

A lot depends for the reasons why the neighboring county (County 1) issued the warrants. If it is for misdemeanors such as driving on suspended DL chances are that the county where you are currently facing the latest charges (County 2) will take you in and take you to County 1. If you appear in County 2 they will no doubt see the warrants from County 1. However, if the warrants in County 1 are for infractions such as speeding tickets, chances are County 2 will not attempt to extradite you to County 1.

I would do the following. Take care of warrants in County 1 as soon as possible. In the meantime, if you have to appear in County 2 you can retain a lawyer to appear there for you. On a misdemeanor charge such as driving on suspended DL, you do not have to appear in person. A lawyer can appear for you. A lawyer could make your first appearance and get a long continuance for you. This should give you plenty of time to take care of the old warrants.

Hope this helps,

Re: warrants

Certainly taking care of the warrants before entering any court on a new violation would be the recommendation, but as you suggest, you may not have the ability to do so.

You should hire an Attorney or at least consult with one about your situation as more info is needed.
