Re: Willfull Cruelty to a Child.

The specific criminal charge is called "Willful harm or injury to a child" and is Penal Code Section 273a. This is a very serious offense that can be charged either as a felony or a misdemeanor. If it is charged as a misdemeanor, the penalty is up to 1 year in county jail; if it is charged as a felony the penalty is 2,4,or 6 years in state prison. The type of charge and penalty is dependent on the specific circumstances of the case and the defendant's criminal history.

A person charged with this offense definitely needs an attorney. We are a statewide law firm and can be reached 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week. I would be more than happy to discuss this matter in further detail with you. Please call

1-800-382-3100. Good Luck!
