Work Release

hi I am a student up at UC Santa Cruz, I was convicted and sentenced to 58 days of county jail for a crime committed a few months back. I am now serving the time on a work release program through the county parks department. I have not missed any scheduled days and have so far been able to go extra days. The only problem is that I also have to leave campus and head back to my home town by the beginning of July. Therefore I will have no place to live. I have 30 days of work release left and have will have about 18 left beginning July. I was told by the SC County work release coordinator that I could not transfer the case. Is there any way I can get the sentenced reduced or can I opt to serve the time in county jail with hopes of getting out early?

As a UC Santa Cruz grad myself, I assume that, at the very least, the scenery is nice where you are sweating to complete your sentence.

You can always go in front of the judge to ask to modify your sentence. Your lawyer should arrange for a hearing. At the very least, the judge should give you an extension to complete your work if you have a need to be away for the summer and you are coming back in the fall. If you want to take county jail, find out how many days you would get and whether the sheriffs release well behaving inmates early.
