Legal Question in Discrimination Law in California
My health
My neighbor keeps me awake all day with a barking dog and all night with his very bright light that shines into my bedroom. It has been causing me to have seizures and migraines. What can I do about them? I am on SSD due to seizures and have had them well under control until the last month when they started leaving the light on all night and let the dog bark all day. I need my sleep. Can someone help me?

Re: My health
First, I would try talking to your neighbor. If that doesnt work then maybe the police, but it doesnt sound criminal. If that doesnt work you may try to bring a nuisance action.

Re: My health
In addition to what my colleagues have suggested, you may want to contact your local Animal Control agency.
Most areas have noise ordinances, and Animal Control has the right to enforce them by citing owners of barking dogs.
Also, having three dogs of my own, and having a few cases involving the legal aspect of dogs, you may be interested to know that a dog constantly barking is his/her way of showing unhappiness. The dog, almost certainly, doesn't want to be outside all day.
Therefore, talk to the neighbors about the dog and the light. Call local police about enforcing a noise ordinance. Ask for help from Animal Control.
Re: My health
You can bring a lawsuit for nuisance. The problem is that you will have to hire an attorney who will most likely require a substantial retainer upfront. you may also want to have a one on one meeting using a friendly neighbour as a go between. As a last alternative and that is if nothing works you may want to file a complaint with the local police department. There may exist a local ordinance for this type of situation.
