Legal Question in Discrimination Law in California
Is this prejudice, racial profiling or discrimination? Can I do something about it.
While groceries shopping a white female approaches me and tells me not to use my dirty hands on fruits. She kept on harrasing me for about 5 minutes. I am a black female and I felt very offended by her remarks. I told her to go about her business and to leave me alone. She kept harassing me for about 5 minutes. Policed was called by grocery store and white female had lied, at one point telling police I had pushed her. There was no physical contact at all and I do have witness. White female seemed to be from high class society and very intolerent. What can be done? with the police it ended with nothing. They did seem to believe her more then me and thus maybe because of white female class stature.
Please let me know of anything. I am very upset and hurting from this. Thank You.

I am sorry for your experience but who are you going to sue. The only one who clearly did something wrong is the woman and it sounds as though you did not get her name so she can not be sued. She was prejudiced but your damages wold not be great and you can not find her to sue her.
While you did nothing wrong, and I feel for you that this woman did this to you, save your lawsuits for more serious indignities. You might want to consider putting a plastic produce bag over your hand, like a glove, when selecting produce. Then just flip the bag back over the produce and presto. It's easier to get the veggies in the bag this way.
