Legal Question in DUI Law in California

DUI fines 10 years later

I had a dui in CA back in 1998 after that I left the state and mover to CO. I contacted a lawer in CA to help me clear it up. He worked it out that all I had to do was spend 2 days in jail (which I did) I flew out to CA spent 2 days and flew home. Now 10 years I've been turned over to a collection company for the fine. I didn't think I had to pay them if I went to jail.

Question: Is there any statue of limitions on the court fines and should I have been charged since I went to jail. Please help. RM in Colo

Re: DUI fines 10 years later

In Colorado there can be both fines and jail. The statute of limitation would be controlled by California law.

The problem is not necessarily the fine. You can pay it. The problem is it was a term of probation and you very likely have a warrant for your arrest here in CA.

If you would like to get this cleared up, please contact my office at your earliest convenience.

BTW. There is no statute of limitations on a warrant.
