Legal Question in DUI Law in California

DUI is making job search difficult

Hi,

My partner recently left his job and is having a difficult time with finding a new job because of a DUI almost 2 years ago now. He works in the auto industry and they often have to insure their workers to drive cars, and some cannot employ him because the insurance would be too expensive or prohibitive.

Is it possible to file something so that the probation period is shortened (especially since it is impeding his ability to gain employment)? It is scheduled to be taken off (probation?) in June 2003, but we cannot wait until then for him to get a job! We are expecting a baby in the next few weeks, and I cannot even afford our rent with my whole paycheck.

Please help!

Re: DUI is making job search difficult

Your partner can go before the judge and ask for the probation to be reduced for all the reasons you stated, however, the problem as far as insurance goes is that the record of the conviction will stay with the DMV for seven years and thus will hurt his insurability. Good luck-Martin
