Legal Question in DUI Law in California
Employment Background Checks and DUI
As a professional and current job
seeker I have recently been pulled over
for DUI at a checkpoint. The case is still
pending. I have not been to court yet. I
have hired a lawyer, I take this very
serious as I have my career on the line.
My question concerns employment and
how many companies are using
backgrounds for prescreening, how
long does it take a DUI conviction to
showup, and does it eliminate one from
the pool, if everything else is good to
go- best person for the job, I get the
feeling that this ruins ones life to the
point that one cannot secure a new job,
it seems very self defeating if one
cannot bring in an income and learn
from their mistakes and move on to live
a happy life, never to repeat again with
a spotless driving record for over 15
years and noting at all in criminal
history.

Re: Employment Background Checks and DUI
We all sympathize with you regarding the all-pervasiveness of "background checks" and what many lawyers have come to describe as the Economic Death Penalty. Hope your lawyer beats the DUI or gets you a favorable outcome.
