Imposed sentences for 1st D.U.I

Is it legal for the court to impose work service hours (180) on top of the imposed fines for a first time drunk driving? The court in which I am dealing with has done both. They imposed 180 hours of community service as well as the 1800.00 fine for the case.

The vehicle code provides for both a fine and a jail sentence. If the community service is a substitute for county jail, it is would appear to be legal. However, 180 hours seems to be extreme for a 1st offense. You should discuss this matter with a local attorney. with experience in defending dui cases.
