Legal Question in DUI Law in California
minor in possession
I am eighteen and attending college. I am out on Spring Break. I parked my car at the end of a court, a block away from my friend's house. Two girls parked their car behind mine. It was about 1 AM and we planned to party a bit and walk back to my friends house. The neighbors called the police. My friend and I took off running but I decided to come back and face the music since my car was parked there. The girls stayed to meet the cops too. I was cited for drunk in public and minor in possession. One of the girls used her fake ID to buy beer. Neithre of the girls were cited. The police later visted my friends house, he was not cited either. My parents were called at 2 AM to come pick me up. The police threatened to take my to jail and expose my ''virgin ass''. Court date set for May.
Do I need an attorney ?
I contacted one attorney and he quoted a fee of $ 1,500, is this reasonable ?

Re: minor in possession
From your scenerio it appears that you were drunk in public. And not drunk driving. So if the offense is a Penal code Section 647(f) this isn't a very big deal. Go in and talk to the D. A. The police normally don't do any blood test, etc. So all the police have is their professional opinion that you were drinking under age. Which would be enough to convict you. However, read the criminal report carefully, and then as a student ask for a public defender to represent you.
