Legal Question in DUI Law in California

Open Alcohol Container Responsibility

Hello!

An event coordinator of a college alumni club told a member that they can bring alcohol to a picnic event at a state park in Los Angeles. That person ended up getting fined by the park ranger at the event for open alcohol container. The person feels the event coordinator/alumni club is responsible and should pay their ticket. Is the coordinator really legally responsible and can the alumni club get in legal trouble just by saying they could bring alcohol (by mistake)? Obviously the coordinator was mistaken and should have checked and apologized. Meanwhile there are signs around the park saying no alcohol that everyone could have seen if paying attention.

The person is demanding money for the ticket or else they will take it to court - but do they have a case?

Thank you!

Re: Open Alcohol Container Responsibility

No case. The member who received the citation is responsible for knowing the law, and should have had the good sense to use a cup.
