Legal Question in DUI Law in California

Statute of limitations on DUI

Hi - I received a DUI in Nevada while on a trip. My license is a California license. This all occurred in August 2000 and I did everything that was asked for NV including AA meetings, community service, and NV alcohol education class. I have a good driver discount in CA and renewed my license twice since then. It is now 2009 and CA is stating I have been driving on a suspended license and now have a restricted license until I complete CA alcohol education! This is 9 years later and I knew nothing about this? I was under the impression that it was up to NV DMV to inform CA DMV and they would inform me if I had to do anything? I cannot have this on my record 9 years later as I drive for work! Can anyone please shed some light?

Re: Statute of limitations on DUI

You should request a hearing at the DMV, and if the request is denied, you should seek a writ with the Superior Court. In the meantime, it wouldn't hurt to complete the education course.
