Legal Question in Education Law in California
Insurance Dispute
I am an international graduate student at a state university in California. As State Law require , every international student has to have an health insurance to be able to register each semester. School put holds to registration until student prove their health insurance. My first two semester, the school did this but not the third semester and let many students to register without insurance. I was unaware that my insurance has expired. I had an emergency surgery couple of days ago and my insurance has expired. Total fee is around $15,000. So, my school's probably computer error mislead me about insurance and school made an illegal registration even though it's a state university. What can I do? Should i find an attorney? I cannot pay that amount.
