Legal Question in Education Law in California
Is it legal for a school to suspend students?
I heard that it is a federal law for all people to go to school. I also know it is a state law that only the following count as excused absences:
1.)Illness
2.)Visits to the doctor/dentist
3.)Attendance at funerals
4.)Court Appointments
So how can a school suspend or even expell students without breaking state and federal law?

Schools must be allowed to discipline students who severely break the rules. This does not violate the laws, as long as their actions do not discriminate. In other words, 2 kids with identical records do some act that seriously violates rules, and only one is suspended, that would be discriminatory.
