Legal Question in Education Law in California
If I wanted to start a scholarship program, who should I talk to?
I'm currently a high school senior, and I want to start a club with the goal of giving away scholarships. However, after discussing the topic with a few people, I was told that I may run into some legal issues. Is there any? To make sure, should I make an inquiry to some subdepartment of the Department of Education?

Anytime dollars are involved, you can bet that the IRS (and Franchise Tax Board) wants to be involved, too. How you raise money and how you give it away can have a lot of consequences. You'd need to talk to either a CPA with tax experience or a tax attorney.
