Legal Question in Education Law in California

Hi I was wondering if i could simply sue my University for emotional distress?

My reason for this question is because I've supposedly graduated from this school and have met all my unit requirements...its been almost 8 months since i walked in my grduation and up to this day I have been waiting for my diploma to come in. So I call my Adviser asking about the delay in my diploma. and she informs me that its being with held because a class I took didn't count towards my Major.

Now the reason for this complaint is before every semester. A student must go to an adviser and pick out their schedule one on one with them. Because:

1.)to insure you are taking the right classes and are well on your way to graduating.

2.) After picking the classes with an adviser, they must authorize the class registration form by sign off on it. Before even going to accounts payable to pay for the classes.

So now they're telling me that my diploma is being with-held because of that one class, that an adviser from that school told me it was okay to take.

I feel like i've done my time there and have realistically finished up all my units and now they're pulling this on me? I just dont have the time and money to do this again...im just looking to start this new chapter in my life.

Any advice would be much appreciated

Sincerely,

Kevin
