Legal Question in Elder Law in California

How detailed should a POA be?

Hi,

I had a POA completed last year for my Mom. Today we went to see an elder law attourney who told us the original POA was not detailed enough for her Long Term Care, IRS filings, banking etc.. We were told that their POA is usually 6-7 pages long and very specific. It appears our original POA covers financial and health matters, just not in detail. Is a detailed POA really necessary? The price for a new POA is about $600.

Many thanks

Re: How detailed should a POA be?

If you mother's attorney already reviewed the older POA and opined, then who am I to dispute his opinion without seeing the original POA? It's better to be safe than sorry. If you are unable to use the older POA, then you may have to open a conservatorship. If that happens, you're going to wish that you had updated the POA.
