Legal Question in Elder Law in California
is a DPA and Medical Power of attorney signed in California valid in Mexico? My mother is 91 and has come up with every excuse to not sign them. Her latest excuse is her concern that she they will not be valid if she goes to Mexico. She is in poor health and we need her to sign them now. She has nothing in place in the event she becomes incapacitated. She is mentally fine and we understand this is her decision.

DPOA's and Health Care Directives are valid in Mexiico, but should be in both English and Spanish if you anticipate the need to use one in Mexico in addition to the United States.
It would also make sense to do a DPOA and AHCD here in California in English and a second set of documents in Spanish signed before a Notario in Mexico.
