Legal Question in Elder Law in California
My father was in an assisted living where he lived independentaly until March 2010 where he went to assisted living. His monthly care was covered mostly by his veterans benefits and social security. He paid the difference. In August 2010, I took him out and brought him home due to financial reasons and signed an agreement on behalf of him to pa y back $6,404.00 due from his benfits he received monthly over a 4 month period. He died Sept. 10 and as a result his benefits terminated. Am I responsible for his remaining debt? I paid his bills but legally was not ever listed as his guardian, executor, or anything else. I am being taken to collections for the money.
