Legal Question in Elder Law in California
My father, who is 76, fell and broke his hip. He was put into a Rehabilitation center to help him walk again. He has COPD as well. He has spent 5 days there and they have left him laying in his own feces and urine, left him laying in bed for 2 days straight without getting him up and other issues. I am his Advocate and spoke to the Administration, nursing surperviser, and director regarding this abuse and mistreatment. Now they are saying that he has to be sent home. He is not even able to get up! What legal rights do I have or who can I speak to about getting help?

You should promptly and accurately document his deplorable condition by taking pictures, videos and any other evidence you can get your hands on at that facility. Write down the names of nurses, doctors or caretakers so they can be subpoenaed later. For now, however, you should report this to APS (Adult Protective Services) at (877) 4-R-SENIORS (477-3646).
