Legal Question in Elder Law in California
hi-jacked retirement funds
My ex mother in law has granted power of attorney to her son in Contre Costa County, California. She has a Certificate of Annuity from the US Railroad Retirement Board and receives $1200 per month. The checks are sent to a joint bank account of which the son is the primary signee. She has now moved to Grenada, West Indies, with her daughter, my ex wife. The son is not forwarding the payments, and is unresponsive. What can she do to receive her benefits? I live in Grenada also, which wouldn't register, as we don't have a zip code.

Re: hi-jacked retirement funds
Assuming that she is the one entitled to the pension, she can contact the US Railroad Retirement Board, and have her direct deposits redirected to another bank.
She should also consider legally withdrawing the power of attorney.
