Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California
Using Celebrity Photos
I work for a non-profit benefitting disadvantaged children. Some of these children met a professional golfer and our staff member took a photo. We would like to use this as a holiday card to our volunteers. The name of the celebrity is not located anywhere on this card. Do I need to obtain permission from the golfer in order to use it?

Re: Using Celebrity Photos
You can't use the celebrity's likeness for any commercial use without his consent, but for a small circulation holiday card, it's probably not going to be a problem, as long as you're not selling the cards. Still, it's best to obtain permission... which shouldn't be too hard if the celeb is a believer in your cause.
