Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California

Closing a Production Deal with A-list Talent

I currently have a film project which is a Red Sox crime thriller being considered by an A-list actor to star in the lead role. The request for consideration was made based on a pitch. Due to my job and family obligations over the past year as I'm a father to a 1-year-old, I've had the hardest time finding the time to write the script to this project but have the pitch and outline of the story registered with WGA. If I'm able to get time with this A-list star and they ask if there's a script, am I dead in the water or could I flip my selling strategy by selling the star on the fact there is no script because I wanted to present the star with the option to exec produce and develop the script from the ground up with myself as the writer if it could be so negotiated. Any feedback on what the best approach would be highly appreciated.

Re: Closing a Production Deal with A-list Talent

You need to have a script to get what you need or will want. The script need not be perfect, just good enough so the A-List actor or the Production company will want to do it and either have you do the rewrites or someone else do them.

Good Luck
