Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California

Edit home video with professional recorded cd

I edit home videos and still images from my personal collections and would like to add professionally recorded cd's as the sound track. Do I need to get permission from the recording company to use their recordings? If so, how? Can I copy and distribute my video to my friends and charge them a fee for my time and supplies used in preparing my video?

Re: Edit home video with professional recorded cd

You want to charge your friends a fee for viewing your home movies? ROFL. Just being able to bore them to tears is compensation enough for most people. Also, if you want to use music within videos that you distribute you need permission from the copyright holder. Google for "royalty-free music library".
