I'm starting my own promotions company and am looking to rent out a small venue (probably los angeles, ca) where I will be showing re-runs of an old yet popular sitcom no longer on the air...by dvd rental; are there any legalities???

You must obtain the permission of the TV show owners before performing or displaying the episodes in public.

Rental of a DVD at your local store does NOT confer the right to do what you propose. It ONLY permits private, home viewing (read the FBI warning you usually skip past).

You need a license to exhibit the program to your guests.
