Is being an ''escort'' (a person or group of persons accompanying another as ''arm candy'' with the end result being that some form of sexual contact/relations without actual sexual intercourse) in any way illegal in the state of California?

Any attorney will always tell you that breaking the law is not advisable. The problem is when questions like this arise, which make the red line difficult to find. Your best bet is not to do anything that could even be construed as prostitution, because if it can be, it likely will be.
