Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California
I am an independent recording artist in Los Angeles who has a record coming out w/in a month. There's one song that features two guest musicians who I no longer speak to or know of their whereabouts. Do I need to find them and pay them money for their services? (I will be selling the music in digital download and compact disc formats) I am not anticipating major or even minor sales figures or radio airplay so am I bound to pay them?
Thanks,
D

Yes, you need their signature on a release of some sort... probably a side-man agreement, or a guest artist agreement.
If you don't do it now, and you have a surprise hit record, they'll surely come around later asking for a larger payment, etc.
