Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California

internet modeling contract

I previously had a contract with an internet site in which they purchased my photos in which I am the model. The contract has expired and it is time to renew, however, they added a new clause that restricts the model from working with any other competitor for the length of the contract (one year) and for two years after termination of the contract. This is a new addition to the contract. The restriction is beyond modeling. It also restricts working for, being involved, or owning one's own similar site. My question is: Is such a restrictive clause technically legal? I am not a regularly paid employee. I asked if they would renew my original contract and they said that was not an option. Any advice would be appreciated. Thank you.

Re: internet modeling contract

You need to have the contract reviewed by an attorney. A restraint on something like this is very fact specific.
