Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California
lawyer's fees
i entered into a contract with a friend. he knows he
owes me $15,000 but only paid me $5,000 and said
that was all i was getting. he knows that it'll cost me so
much in attorney's fees that it's not worth going after
him. but if i prevail in court, can't i also get him to pay
attorney's fees? can i at least put a big $ number on my
lawsuit to scare him and claim it's for attorney's fees?
thanks.

Re: lawyer's fees
This seems similar to a copyright law question I received regarding a contract for a story. I will assume this is true and answer the (lengthier and more detailed) question.
Just sue him straight up
I might take the case if you give 40% contingency and costs.
Re: lawyer's fees
if your "friend" is willfully and maliciously failing to perform his end of the agreement here, not only should you initiate legal action, but should, and would absolutely be within your rights to request attorney fees and court costs here. further, you should easily prevail in all areas based on the facts presented thus far. if you would like further legal assistance in this matter, email our office today.
