Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California

Magazine Story Selling

I have a story I want to sell to a magazine. Right now, Star Magazine and the National Enquirer are waiting to hear from me because I contacted both of them by email about a story I have they might want. They both replied that they want it, but I just realized that I'm not sure: Is it legal for me to sell them both my story, the same story, to publish in their magazine? Or am I only allowed to sell it to one magazine company? Please help me. Thank you.

Re: Magazine Story Selling

It depends on the offer. Most likely the offer letter will want exclusive rights (as opposed to non-exclusive rights) or you might be able to negotiate another creative solution. Let me know if you would like to involve us in this matter, but the first step is to get an offer from them in writing.
