Re: Production Work
What if you produced a project for a client and you had your lawyer write up a contract that spells out, in writing, what does and does not constitute full performance. You wouldn't have headaches like this.
You haven't provided very many facts, but I surmise that you either didn't have a written contract, or you downloaded a legal form, or you signed a contract prepared by the client's lawyer.
Now, you are going to have to either a) tell the client to go pound sand; or b) refund some or all of their money or make some other concession. What you decide is essentially a business decision based in part on the value you place on client's future business and word-of-mouth.
If there is an impasse, they can sue for their money back and maybe they would get it, maybe not, depending on the facts, and most likely each side would incur some attorney fees and wind up settling for some amount in the middle.
