Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California
Small Claims
I won the judgement for my small
claims against a woman who used
false advertising to get me to pay for
modeling headshots. She placed an
ad looking for models and said the job
would pay $1300-$2400. She said
she loved my look but would need
pictures first. I paid her $750 for the
pix thinking I'd get this job. I never
heard from her again after receiving
the pix, therefore she never gave me
the job. And worse the pix were poor
quality and unprofessional and I
could not get any work off those
photos!! This has happened to
several other models and one of
those models filed the small claims
with me. So we had a sheriff serve
her papers at her office. We won the
judgement on Mon Jan 5 because
she was a no show, and this morning
Jan 8 I get a call from the woman's
partner saying they are going to sue
us for fraud because they never got
served!! Can this really happen? Or
are they just trying to scare us?
