Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California
my son was assaulted on the soccer field during the game, by a player on the other team. I have everything on video. My question is, can I press charges for assault even though it was during a school event. He was knocked out for more than a few seconds.

I am a civil attorney, so I cant speak to criminal more than to suggest that you might try depending on what actually happened. Even lawyers can disagree on what an assault is and whether one took place. There is a certain amount of automatic consent and assumption of risk that goes into someone voluntarily stepping onto a soccer field to play, for instance, to pushing, shoving, elbows, kicks, etc. The question is along the lines of whether what the player did to your son was outside what your son consented to, and whether it goes beyond a simple violation of the rules.
