Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California
Statute of Limitations on Contract and Legal Standing in Small Claims Court
Recently, I received a check for a music performance my band did for a Church and their St. Patrick's Day Dance in March, 1984. I still have the contract on file. The check was for the balance due payment of $350. I called the Church that issued the check to explain that I had just received the balance due payment some 22 years late. I requested that they reissue another check. Their response was they did not feel obligated to pay it. ''We don't have the money. We wrote that off years ago.''
Question: Is there a statute of limitations in California State law on contracts such as this? Do I have legal standing to take this to Small Claims Court?
Thank you for your response.

Re: Statute of Limitations on Contract and Legal Standing in Small Claims Court
The Statute of Limitations is up and you are S.O.L. You didn't say how it was that the check was delayed in reaching you by 22 years. Assuming it was not the Postal Service, you could have reason to sue whomever forgot to give you the check until now, in small claims court.
