Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California
tv appearance, reruns, compensation?
I was prosecutors lead witness in a
murder trial several years ago in san
diego. a year later nbc tv aired edited
clips of it nationally on a show called
crime and punishment. I did not sign
a release, and understand it is not
needed for this to be shown. it is
rerun often on various cable
networks, such as msnbc, court tv,
and others. my testimony and 911
call are very dramatic, and necessary
for the episode. is there any
mechanism for me to receive
compensation for these recasts?
thank you.

Re: tv appearance, reruns, compensation?
No. These are matters of public record and are newsworthy, so the network need not pay you for your appearance.
