Legal Question in Entertainment Law in California
Verbal Contract
My business partner made a verbal deal with a company to make a film. It's been 35 days and we still do not have answers to the majority of the questions we have asked. Nor, do we know who the partners in another country are. This company was told that we needed answers by July 5. We still do not have them. And, now, after calling them numerous time, they are not calling back. The deal is not in writing. All verbal. AND, to make matters worse, the owners of this company are attorneys. We want out of the deal. What do we do?

Re: Verbal Contract
This is one of those how-many-things-can-you-find-wrong with this picture deal questions. First, you are in a partnershp as your form of business. This is dumb. You have made a verbal agreement (even for something as complicated as making a film). This is also dumb. You are dealing with a foreign "company" made of "attorneys" who you are inexplicably unable to contact (and who do not believe in written contracts). At this point I am starting to wonder whether this "deal" involves bogus cashier's checks, Western Union, or a post office box in Nigeria.
