Legal Question in Family Law in California

In 2009 my ex-husband filed a temporary custody order with the court.I WAS TOLD BY THE COURT IT WAS IN STORAGE. How long is temporary in legal terms?

The court clerk may be telling you that their original file on the case is in storage. That does not answer the question if the order you reference is in full force and effect. The best next step is to have the court pull the file from storage and look to see what the last custody order was and provide a copy to you. Unless a court order is modified, it remains in full force and effect until the child or children reach the age of majority.

Temporary simply means it is not a final decision. A temporary order remains in effect until a final adjudication of the issues covered by the order. Then a final order is entered.
