Legal Question in Family Law in California

Is it possible to have 2 legal names?

I was reading some of Michael Jackson's documents of the trial, in the official website of santabarbara country for the michael jackson's trial, while at one point I realized that on some documents it's written Michael Jackson, then Michael Joseph jackson and then Michael Joe Jackson, plus his true name is listed as Michael Joe Jackson, but in OTHER OFFICIAL DOCUMENTS It's Michael Joseph Jackson, plus in a testimony in 1993 he said his name was Michael Joseph Jackson-

How is that possible?

and what does "true name"mean?

Unless it is for the purpose of committing fraud, you can use as many differnent names as you want. Many people you thelir first and last name, sometimes add their middle initial or spell it out fully, use a nick name, a shortened verison of their first name, etc. You true name is what is on your birth certificate or you legally changed it to later.
