Legal Question in Family Law in California
In 2000, we obtained a CA marriage license. We went to hawaii and had a marriage ceremony, performed by a CA pastor on May 11. We did not obtain a marriage license in Hawaii.
We did not ever perform a CA marriage ceremony. The CA license was recorded as married on May 11, 2000 in Huntington Beach CA. (while we were in Hawaii)
Are we legally married? What is our status?

You are married in CA where you obtaind a marriage license. Other states are required to give full faith and credit to your previous marriage in CA.
For self represented individuals you can consult with the family law facilitator self help center at your local court house.
As always please consult a local attorney prior to taking legal action. Good luck. Also please check out my Santa Clara County Family Lawyer blog.
