Legal Question in Family Law in California

1st paper fee

I am being sued by Child Support Services, San Diego for financial payback that my daughter's mother acquired when she quit her job.

They, Supreme Court of California, sent me today, Feb 4, 2004, documents indicating that I have to pay a ''1st paper fee''.

If I am the one being sued, why are they asking me to pay this fee?

Will I get the fee back if the judge determines that I am not responsible for the repayment of the financial assistance?

Thank you very much for your time.

The SUPERIOR COURT has informed you that you must file an ANSWER and pay the required filing fee. It is not refundable. You should obtain representation immediately. Call me directly at (619) 222-3504.

You will probably be required to pay child support, unless you can show that you have already paid child support to the mother during the perior of time that was on assistance. The amount that you pay will depend on how much you earn and how much time that you spend with the child. You are better off having your papers reviewed by an attorney before you file the answer or appear. You should know what the DCSS will be expecting from you as a contribution and you will need an experienced attorney for that. Good Luck, Pat McCrary
