Legal Question in Family Law in California

I have a 1 year old daughter who I have raised alone from birth. Father signed B/C and has came to visit 3 times at 5 days each visit. I live in California also this is where my daughter was born. Her Father resides in Texas. We have no custody or court paperwork as we would rather keep the courts uninvolved. I plan on taking my child to Texas so she can visit her Father and his family. I will be staying the entire visit which is planned for the upcoming holidays. Approx we will be gone 1-2 monthes. My question is there anything he or his family can do to take/keep my child against my wishes. I have no friends or family there and need to know my rights while traveling with my child out of state. Please tell me my rights and any advice on any negative situation that may arise. Is there anything i can do to protect myself and my daughter before i leave california and go to texas? thank you

You need to consult with a Texas attorney on their family law child custody rules. You really need to file and serve a California paternity petition with a motion to establsh custody and visitation to ensure California controls jurisdiction.
