Legal Question in Family Law in California
Can a 14 year be forced to visit with noncustodial parent?
After 14 years I've decided to open a child support case for my daughter. I went to court yesterday and he completely denied that he knew of her birth. I have no physical proof that he knew because he never took upon himself any parential responsiblities. Yet at court he said that he wanted to file for visitation rights. I discussed this issue with my daughter and she doesn't want to. Can she be forced to visit or does she have a choice?

He can get visitation only if he admits that he is the father. With 14 year children it is difficult to make them do anything they don't want to do. If he proceeds with his request for visitation, you should request that there be an inductory period, which consists of short visits with you present and then expanding over a period of time. That your daughter be allowed to determine the extent of the visits.
