Legal Question in Family Law in California

ok i have a 3 year old son and i share custody with his mothers mom (grand ma) his mom is on drugs and is in and out of jail and prison there is no set custody for my son i keep him for a week and then he stays with his grand ma for a week and so on i also have a felon history for stolen cars and assult and also a domestic violence i have completed all of the necessary clases and am almost off parole i have not been in any trouble sense the prison term except for a dui that had no jail time my question is what are my rites as far as custody with my son are concerned as i said there is no custody ordered and also his grand mother was given guardian ship while his mother and i were incarcerated and that was over 3 years ago and i have taken care of him ever sense however we do share him every othe week for the last year and a half his mother however is not in the picture except a few hours here and there every couple of months
