Legal Question in Family Law in California

14-year-old's High School Decision

Hi: My 14-year-old's father and I have been operating for the past 9 years without a child custody order. Over the years my daughter has been living with her Dad over 50% and going to school in his school district. She now wants to go to the school district where I live. She's starting 9th grade next week. He is vehemently opposed to her attending school in another district. He is stating that there is a family law which prevents her from going to a different school district without his permission. I cannot find this law. Again, we have no custody order, no order for child support. I've tried for years to get the custody to 50/50, but he refuses to discuss it so I dropped the issue until my daughter was old enough to make her own decision, which she now is. I am afraid he is going to do something drastic to prevent her from starting school next week. Is there such a law which he claims exists? We live in different counties but are only about 15 miles apart. He is an attorney (not famly law) and I believe he is preparing for a smear campaign via the courts. She just wants to attend a much better high school and be with her mom and dad 50/50. Should I prepare to have the police at my doorstep?

If he won't allow it, this could cause a problem. You might need to file an Order to Show Cause for custody, and request minor's counsel.
